Work on Steepís Settlement Appraisal was carried out between late 2011 and early 2012. The final report was published on 20th October 2012.
This Settlement Character Assessment is complementary to the Buildings and Landscape documents and provides the basis for the Design Guidance included in the Parish Plan. They should be read in conjunction with each other. The Assessment is based on work undertaken by Hampshire County Council (HCC) and uses an approach which helps to structure the Character Assessment in a form that makes it easy to understand. A standard analysis sheet was used and the Village Character Type (VCT) uses the classification provided by HCC. Maps showing this material have been included.
A short description of the history of Steep provides a general introduction to the area. For each Settlement Character Area there are separate sections about its history, the size of plots, significant buildings, building lines and format. Topography and green infrastructure are covered, together with highways. The key qualities are summarised, followed by sections on managing and maintaining character. Final sections cover the Steep Parish Design Guidance (incorporated in the Parish Plan) and Highway recommendations which will be taken forward by the Parish Councilís Traffic Management Group.
